...One who knows the world through Rythmvmnt
Rythmvmnt is a movement and dance technique evolved out of a 20-year
exploration of Sports, Theatre, Yoga, Physical Theatre and Dance.
The primary goal of Rythmvmnt is to give individuals the skills and
confidence to move and dance from their true-selves. This will be
achieved through an introduction and exploration of breath awareness,
body limbering, physical trust games and dance techniques applied
in Japanese Butoh, Contact Improvisation and African Dance.
The foundation of the word is Rhythm and Movement. Rhythm is something
one feels and movement is something one does. The combination of these
two, forms- Rythmvmnt. One must truly feel an internal rhythm, before
an external can be added.
The focus of these workshops is to introduce various aspects of your
body to your self, there by enabling you to truly move from your own
natural rhythms, without inhibitions and fear.
Rythmvmnt classes begin with breathing exercises, allowing students
to connect deeply within themselves. Next we move to body limbering
techniques, used in dance and Yoga. This internal to external movement
allows us to centre ourselves before we expand our physical repertoires.
Once our bodies are warmed up we can then move into various explorations
of Butoh, Contact Improvisation, trust games and African dance. All
these techniques utilize various parts giving us a true understanding
of how the body flows. Once this is achieved we are then are able
to move and dance from our natural and free rhythms.
Varieties of music, including live drumming and percussion will be
used to assist us in our journey through the landscape of movement.
The workshops end with a segment of "guided chaos" and further expansions
of personal rhythmic form, followed by a cool down period, returning
to our breath. These workshops are designed for all levels and ages
of participants. |
